Personalizing Your Ketubah Designs

As your wedding day comes nearer, a lot of things have to be fixed and done. Of course you want this day to be very special for both you and your partner. One of the most important things in your Jewish wedding ceremony is your Ketubah. A Ketubah can be a clear expression of your love for each other. A Ketubah is a special legal document, something like a marriage contract, which is an integral part of a Jewish wedding ceremony. As a future married couple both of you need to decide on what Ketubah designs you want, how you want it to look and also the content of the text. Since this piece of art will be forever hanging in your home throughout your married life you will want to pick your Ketubah design carefully.

In order to customize your Ketubah designs you need to keep some elements in mind beforehand:

If the officiate on your wedding day is a rabbi it is very important to ask their approval for your Ketubah design and text long before the wedding. If it is an Orthodox wedding, your rabbi must approve the Orthodox Ketubah text. Even though an interfaith Ketubah text is not an official document in accordance with the written Jewish law, a lot of rabbis still have very strict policies on the subject of what kind of designs, symbols and text they will (or will not) allow on an interfaith Ketubah. So upon purchasing or ordering a custom Ketubah for your wedding you need to consider this so you don't have any problems on the day of your wedding ceremony. If your wedding is not traditional and it is not a rabbi who is going to marry you then you can have your Ketubah text say whatever your heart desires.

For both you and your partner you should also consider finding a design that makes you happy when you look at it. Maybe you have a friend or family member who is an artist who can create a design for you. Or perhaps you share the love of a certain painter or water-colorist and you can hire them to make a Custom Ketubah that both of you will cherish. Always remember that this will be a special document that will be with you for the rest of your married life. The Ketubah designs and the text are both important so try to find an artist who can integrate them in a beautiful way.
